Best Tokyo Tower Photography Spots & Instagram Locations

Discover the best Tokyo Tower photography spots with coordinates, tips, and a map to capture stunning shots day or night.

The Tokyo Tower is one of the most iconic landmarks in Tokyo, offering incredible photography opportunities day and night. During my last visit to Japan’s capital, I explored some of the best photography spots to capture this stunning structure. To save you time, I’ve compiled them into a handy map so you can navigate easily.

Tokyo Tower View from Yebisu Sky Lounge (Indoor View)

Closest Station: Ebisu (Follow signs for Yebisu Sky Lounge)
Entrance Fee: Free

This is my personal favorite photography spot! From here, you get a breathtaking panoramic view of Tokyo.

On a clear day you can see the sun going down behind Mount Fuji on one side. On the other side you can see the lights of the city slowly turning on after the sun disappears behind the mountains, and the Tokyo tower lighting up.

Even though it’s an indoor viewpoint behind glass, the windows were super clean when I visited, and reflections were minimal due to the dim lighting inside. Tripods are allowed, making it an ideal place for long exposure shots.

Tokyo Tower view from the overpass

Coordinates: 35°38’42.5″N 139°44’39.9″E
Closest Station: Tamachi (Exit A2)

This overpass offers a unique perspective of Tokyo Tower, slightly hidden behind the buildings along the roadside. I recommend a (slight) zoom lens here. Personally I liked this spot around sunset, but if you want the light trails of the road below then night time is also a great time. Note however that it’s tricky to do very long exposures here, as the overpass slightly shakes from time to time.

Tokyo Tower from the Instagram-Famous Crossroad

Coordinates: 35°39’11.1″N 139°44’42.4″E
Closest Station: Akabanebashi (Exit C1)
Or a short walk from the overpass location above

This famous Instagram spot is located in the middle on a pedestrian crossing, offering a perfect street-level composition with Tokyo Tower rising in the background. Personally I found it a bit hyped. When I visited, there was a bunch of insta tourists taking their time to do a full on shoot there. You can also go one crossroad backwards, where you can get a similar view and I took below photo. A wide-angle lens helps capture the cityscape and tower together.

Tokyo Tower Famous Instagram Spot from the Subway Station Exit

Closest Station: Akabanebashi (Exit Nakanohashi)

Unfortunately my stay was short, and I did not have enough time to go to all the spots I found. However One of the most famous Instagram spots for Tokyo Tower is from Akabanebashi Station (Exit Nakanohashi) on the Toei Oedo Line. Take the Toei Oedo Line to Akabanebashi Station. Exit from the Nakanohashi Exit. As soon as you step out, you’ll see Tokyo Tower perfectly framed by the street. This location is perfect for both daytime and nighttime shots, with Tokyo Tower glowing beautifully after sunset.

Tokyo Tower & Zojoji Temple – Classic Tokyo Shot

Coordinates: 35.658580, 139.748096
Short walk from Onarimon or Shibakoen Station

Another spot that’s on my list for my next visit is the view of the Tokyo Tower together with the Zojoji Temple in Shiba Park, where the traditional temple beautifully contrasts with the modern tower rising behind it. This spot is perfect at sunrise, sunset, or nighttime when Tokyo Tower glows. I would personally suggest sunrise, as I believe it will be less crowded compared to sunset.
